R-Project

If you are interested in having a local R-Wind project set up and you think that the majority of the community would be supportive then please look at the initial criteria to be considered.

The site you have in mind should ideally be:-

  • In an area not subject to restrictive planning controls.
  • In an open area exposed to the wind and with no significant wooded areas or obstructions especially to the south-west and clockwise through to the north-west.
  • On land owned by a sympathetic person who has been approached and had the idea of a turbine project described.
  • Have an average annual windspeed of more than 6.5 m/s at 45m hub height according to the DTI database. You can find this through a link at the British Wind Energy Association website. Click here.
  • Within 500m of three-phase 11kV power lines and not more than 4km from a substation.
  • Not close to dwellings! - For a 800kW turbine the minimum distance should be 530m. For a 2000kW turbine this should be revised upwards to 800m.
  • If there are dwellings a little nearer than the above figures they should be to the south of the turbine site to minimise flicker.
  • No nearer than 200m to any microwave communications paths.
  • No nearer than 9km to any airfield or airport.
  • Not near any military low-flying route.
  • Not near a bird migration path or special conservation area.
  • Not in an area likely to be submerged by rising sea levels or flooding in the next 30 years.
  • With good road access for large and long vehicles with large turning circles.
N.B. If multiple turbines are being considered there must be adequate distance between them. The minimum distance will vary depending on the nature of the site and the size of turbine.

The above are not hard and fast criteria but any site that deviates from them will require extended evaluation.

Please register your details and a description of your site location if you would like an evaluation to be done.

Feel free to give Simon a call on 01263 761402 to discuss your intended site.
